Six New Offshore Patrol Vessels

Client: Babcock Marine

Location: Portsmouth Dockyard

Project: Six new build offshore patrol vessels

Service: Painting

Overview

Denholm Industrial Services was awarded coating works on six new build offshore patrol vessels, which took place from 2007 until 2013.

This contract required:

  • A turnkey solution for the preparation and painting services on new-build marine vessels
  • A flexible approach to accommodate unforeseen programme changes
  • A collaborative approach to ensure Babcock Marine achieved the overall build programme
  • Our commitment to quality and long-term warranties

The Challenge

Denholm Industrial Services was contracted to supply and coordinate multiple services including access, scaffold, containment / encapsulation, surface preparation, painting, general cleaning, Final Inspection (FI) cleaning and protection of finished areas.

Due to programme congestion at HMNB Portsmouth, our client subcontracted the build of some units - including mast and funnel units - to A&P Tyne and relocated the complete build of two vessels to the Scotstoun/Govan yards on the Clyde.

The Solution

Despite the logistical challenges, we successfully completed all programmes without major issue. Our flexible approach ensured our client kept their overall programme on track.

Painting of the vessels was lead by the client's in-house team and supported by Denholm Industrial Services, who were able to mobilise additional capacity to relieve the pressure on our client and collaboratively deliver the project on time.

As part of the contract we provided insurance-backed long term warranties (up to seven years) for our workmanship. As part of our insurance protection there was a requirement for full traceability of the QA records which were readily available and satisfied the insurers.
