Working as principal contractor to Babcock Marine, Denholm Industrial Services (DIS) undertook a multiple asset project to refurbish a number of dry dock related water control barriers.
The works involved preparation of substrates that were heavily contaminated with sea salts and the application of protective coatings both above and within splash zone areas.
The operational requirements of a busy Ministry of Defence dockyard and the need to work within the tidal patterns provided frequently varying challenges.
Working patterns and resource management were continually adjusted to meet the evolving circumstances and to avoid programme delays. Additionally, 'lessons learned' were applied as the project developed, making the work increasingly more cost effective.
The project involved working over water and working at height - diligent and safe working practices were maintained throughout.
